Pythal Mala Kannur – An enchanting hill station of Kerala

One of the unseen destinations of Kerala is Pythal Mala also spelled as Paithalmala lies in evergreen shola forests in Kannur. It is located 65 kilometers from the Kannur main town. The mountain which is located about 4550 feet above sea level is a sort after destination for the trekking people. A 6-kilometer hard trek will give you a mesmerizing view and a panoramic view of Coorg in Karnataka. The Ezharakundu Waterfalls on the way is another important point. Trekkers can take a dip in the cooling waters.

The best time to visit this hillstation is monsoon and summer. There are 2 routes for the trekkers.

  1. Starting from Kappimala (Near Alakkodu), is arduous, and hence avoided by the faint-heart people.
  2. Starting from Pottenplave, near Kudianmala, is the more beaten one, easier and studded along with civilization.
