Kerala can now boast of India’s longest cantilever glass bridge. State Tourism Minister PA Mohamed Riyas inaugurated the bridge at the picturesque Vagamon Adventure Park on Wednesday, September 6. Kolahalamedu Bridge promises to be a great attraction for tourists and adventure lovers. The project was implemented in a public-private partnership model where the Idukki District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) partnered with Bharat Mata Ventures Private Limited.
Located at an astonishing height of 3,500 meters above sea level, the bridge is 120 feet long and offers a unique experience.
Made of glass imported from Germany and reinforced with 35 tons of steel, this architectural marvel offers visitors the opportunity to walk along a transparent path with a mesmerizing view of the surrounding mountains.
The bridge can accommodate up to 15 people at a time, allowing them to spend about 10 minutes admiring the scenic views of the Mundakayam, Koottikkali, and Kokkayar.
As an introductory offer, the entry fee has been fixed at ₹500 per person.
“As much as 35 tonnes of steel was used to build the bridge at a cost of ₹ 3 billion,” Jomy Poonoly, CEO of Bharat Mata Ventures, said at the inauguration. “The glass bridge is supported on steel cables. The structure is one of the best adventure tourism spots in Vagamon,” said Poonoly.
The adjacent adventure park has a rocket launcher, giant swing, zip line, sky bike, sky roller, free fall, bungee trampoline, 360-degree cycling, and water zorbing. The park also offers leisurely boating on the tranquil Vagamon Lake.
“It is a very good opportunity for the tourism department to inaugurate India’s largest cantilever bridge here at Vagamon and pride of the state,” Minister Riyas said.
“Every geographical location in Kerala has the potential to attract tourists – be it the coast, the mountains, or the valleys. Let this Idukki project be the beginning of a major tourism development that would elevate the region as a major tourist destination in the state,” he added.
